Apple, pear and herbs over wood, caramel and milk chocolate with metallic and vegetal edges, a 10 year single-cask Albion from The Nectar at a high 62.5%, dry, quirky and made for slow, focused tasting.
Description
An Albion bottled by The Nectar for their Daily Drams series, distilled in 2012 off a double wooden pot still and aged ten years. Albion is a lost-estate marque, surviving only by recreation on the heritage stills at Diamond, which gives bottlings like this an unusual, finite character.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled unsweetened at 62.5%, it pours dry and high proof, with apple, pear and herbal notes over wood, caramel and milk chocolate, plus metallic, vegetal and faintly smoky edges. The profile sits close to a young Port Mourant but with its own quirky twist, and the strength asks for patience. This is a layered, slightly wild Guyana pot-still rum for slow, focused tasting, best set against other Albion or PM bottlings to read its character fully.
