Description
La Maison du Whisky, the Paris house and one of Europe's most respected whisky specialists, selected this 2018 cask of The Hearach for its Collection Itinéraires. Single cask 1908 gave 238 bottles at six years old, a French eye on a young Hebridean malt.
The Hearach comes from the Isle of Harris Distillery in Tarbert, opened in 2015 as a Social Distillery to revive a struggling island community. Its lightly peated spirit and gneiss-filtered water give the malt its mineral, coastal character. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, the oak keeps it bright and clean.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 58.6%. The ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, the gentle smoke woven through. At six years it is fresh and direct, orchard fruit and vanilla over a salty mineral edge. A specialist's pick of an island newcomer.
