Description
An official Glasgow Distillery single malt, drawn from cask Batch 01 and bottled at 60.8%. A release of 1000 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company took its 1770 name from the city's old Dundashill distillery, and revived Glasgow malt in 2012. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters.
The spirit was made from peated barley in copper pot stills, for a smoky, full make. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness, fast on the young spirit. Active first fill wood pulls colour and flavour quickly into the young spirit. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020. The make is bright and fruity, a modern, metropolitan take on Lowland malt. Production has grown year on year as demand for Glasgow malt has risen. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century.
At 60.8%, undiluted, it is rich and vivid. Wood smoke, citrus and a malty sweetness lead, and the Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle, and the virgin oak gives vanilla, baking spice and a little coconut. It is fruity and bold, the spirit and oak well matched. Ash and sweet fruit see out a long finish. This is Glasgow's Rich and Smoky single malt.
