Description
This official 1770 Glasgow single malt matured to 7 year old from 2015, drawn from cask 15/102 and bottled at 62.5%. A release of 388 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012 and revived single malt distilling in Glasgow after more than a century. Water comes from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled without chill filtration and at natural colour.
The spirit was worked through copper pot stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the fresh, fruity make at the heart of the 1770 style. A wine cask held it, layering berry fruit over the make. Bottled without chill filtration, the texture stays full and the cask speaks clearly. A young distillery, it leans on active wood to bring its whisky to life quickly. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020. The make is bright and fruity, a modern, metropolitan take on Lowland malt. Production has grown year on year as demand for Glasgow malt has risen.
At a hearty 62.5% it carries real punch. Green apple and a creamy malt lead, and the Port cask adds plum and red berry. A green apple and a warm spice lift it. A long, fruity finish carries a vanilla lift. This is Glasgow's revived single malt, the 1770.
