Description
Tapatio Tequila Añejo is an aged 100% agave tequila from the Camarena family's Tapatio brand, made at the La Alteña distillery in highland Jalisco, NOM 1139, the house founded by Don Felipe Camarena in 1937 and still run by hand across generations. Tapatio is the family's domestic rooted label, full flavoured and traditional in style.
This añejo spends eighteen months in American white oak that previously held whisky, drawing a straw to light amber colour and a clear barrel signature. The nose runs to sweetly cooked agave, crème brûlée, vanilla and caramel with subtle cinnamon and red pepper. On the palate cooked agave, cocoa and vanilla meet pepper, walnut and a touch of berry, with vegetal and woody notes underneath and a soft, silky, very long finish where spice lingers at the back of the palate. Bottled at 38%.
