A single cask Fiji from South Pacific bottled by Maison Ferrand, thirteen years old and gently funky with tropical fruit, vanilla, coconut and a soft tea note, a friendly, crowd pleasing introduction to Fijian rum at 49.5%.
Description
South Pacific Plantation One-Time Limited Edition 2009 is a single cask Fijian rum distilled at South Pacific and bottled by Maison Ferrand under its Plantation line. At thirteen years old and 49.5 percent it offers a softer, more accessible window into Fiji rum than the high octane cask strength releases the island is known for. From a 2009 vintage, it carries enough age to feel settled and rounded.
Distilled from molasses on a pot still and matured in ex bourbon wood, it shows tropical fruit, vanilla, coconut and a curious note of brewed tea, with only light funk rather than the full ester assault. The body is friendly and the finish gently sweet and fruity, with papaya and caramelised notes, making it an easy crowd pleaser. It works as a stepping stone for drinkers curious about Fijian character but not yet ready for the wilder, more solventy bottlings, pleasant neat without demanding much.
