Beenleigh Plantation (Sherry Cask) 2009

This single cask draws on Beenleigh, one of Australia's oldest rum distilleries, with a 2009 vintage bottled by Maison Ferrand under the Plantation, now Planteray, label and finished in a sherry cask. Australian rum is a growing niche, and twelve years of age gives this molasses spirit real maturity.

Maison Ferrand double-ages in France and openly uses dosage, so expect a rounded rather than austere style. A sherry cask typically adds dried fruit, raisin and nutty depth over the vanilla and toffee of the base ageing, and at a single cask 45.3% the rum should carry that richness with good definition. It is a characterful crossover between Australian distillate and European cask work.
