Description
Shizuoka 4 Years Old 2019 is a single cask cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, drawn from an Ex-Bourbon cask, distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 as a limited event release. This bottling sits within the larger cohort of 2019 event single casks the distillery has released over consecutive years, maintaining the same vintage while exploring individual cask variation.
At 50.5%, the Ex-Bourbon character of vanilla, fresh apple and light cereal is clearly expressed, with the new make's orchard fruit providing depth. The cedar washbacks central to Shizuoka's production process contribute a subtle herbal and aromatic thread, a recurring feature across the distillery's single cask releases that adds a degree of distinctiveness when set beside other young Japanese bourbon-cask malts. A consistent and honest expression of the 2019 vintage at four years.
