Description

Shizuoka 3 Years Old 2019 is a single cask cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, drawn from a Bourbon cask, distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2023 for the Japanese domestic market. At three years, it is among the youngest of Shizuoka's single cask releases, offering an almost unmediated view of the new make, barely softened by wood influence.

At 61.9%, the spirit is bold and assertive, with fresh citrus, raw grain, vanilla from the Bourbon cask and the vivid orchard fruit character that the Shizuoka production process, built around cedar washbacks and copper pot stills, consistently produces. The three-year maturation has begun the work of integrating the wood and the spirit, but the new make energy dominates, making this a fascinating document for those who want to understand where this distillery's older expressions come from.
