S.B.S Tahiti (Bourbon Cask) 2017

S.B.S Tahiti is a single cask bottling from 1423's transparent Single Barrel Selection, a six year old rum from Tahiti matured in an ex-bourbon cask. S.B.S favours detail and honesty in its releases, and this is one of its more unusual origins, far from the familiar Caribbean map.

Bottled at cask strength of 57%, it is intensely fruity, with strawberry candy, citrus and vanilla up front and a distinct grappa or Obstler like fruit spirit character that divides opinion. The cask brings some bourbon warmth, but the finish stays fruity, spicy and a touch hot. This is an experimental curiosity rather than a polished crowd-pleaser, with rough edges that come with the territory. It will appeal to drinkers who chase high strength single casks and enjoy distinctive, unconventional profiles.
