An unaged single-origin white agricole from Guadeloupe bottled by 1423 S.B.S at 57%, fresh and vegetal with sugarcane, grass and a briny green-olive edge over a mineral, green finish, a textbook canne-rouge-style blanc.
Description
This Red Cane comes from the Danish bottler 1423 under its detail-obsessed Single Barrel Selection, an unaged white agricole from Guadeloupe pressed from fresh sugarcane juice and bottled at 57%. 1423's S.B.S line is known for transparency and an unsweetened, full-proof approach, and this single-origin blanc puts the cane front and centre.
Distilled on a column still run low to hold the vegetal congeners and left unaged, it leads with fresh, grassy cane character. The nose is fresh and green with sugarcane and a vegetal lift, the palate brings grass, a briny green-olive note and a mineral streak, and the finish stays grassy and green with olive and a fruity edge. It is a textbook expression of the canne-rouge style, herbal and saline rather than sweet. The added-sugar status is not documented and reads dry. At its best in a Ti' Punch or cocktails where its olive-and-cane snap shines, it also rewards a curious neat pour.
