Description
Ruinart launched one of the first rosé cuvees in Champagne more than 250 years ago, and this Brut carries that history. The blend is 55% Pinot Noir, with 18 to 19% of it vinified as still red wine to set the colour and red fruit, alongside 45% Chardonnay for freshness and cut. Reserve wines from the two preceding vintages add continuity and depth. The wine follows the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and ageing on the lees before release.
The colour is a delicate pomegranate rosé with subtle orange highlights and a lively, persistent bead. The nose shows red berries, rose petal and pomegranate with a touch of exotic fruit, and the palate is full and balanced, with red-fruited flavour, a hint of mint and a grapefruit-citrus edge. The finish is fresh and long. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It suits tuna tartare, salmon and prawns, and stands up to duck breast and veal.
