Rosebank Batch 1 (TBWC)

This is a Rosebank single malt, chosen and bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, a 26 year old Lowland malt, and bottled at 48.5%. A release of 321 bottles. Rosebank, founded in 1840 by James Rankine beside the Forth and Clyde Canal, was shut by its owners in 1993. Its last spirit ran in 1993, a finite legacy revered ever since.

It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, giving the delicate yet weighty character it was famed for. An American oak cask shaped it, flattering the floral, ester rich make. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and tropical while keeping its finesse. The third distillation lifts the spirit clean and high, leaving a delicate, ester rich new make. Few lost distilleries are mourned, or bottled, as devotedly as Rosebank. Laid down before 1993, this is spirit from a distillery silent for three decades.

At its natural 48.5% it is concentrated and honeyed. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. The finish is elegant, waxy and tropical. This is a piece of Lowland legend in the glass.
