Rosebank 7 Years Old 1991 Cask #2059 (van Wees)

This Rosebank was from the independent bottler van Wees, a 7 year old Lowland malt, from 1991, drawn from cask 2059 and bottled at 43%. Rosebank, opened in 1840 in Camelon near Falkirk, in the Lowlands, was closed in 1993. The 108 foot chimney stood over Falkirk through the long silent years.

Triple distilled through three pot stills and condensed in wooden worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the florals lead. At a youthful age the florals are lively and the fruit clean. A long, gentle maturation suits the refined, ester led Rosebank character. Laid down before 1993, this is spirit from a distillery silent for three decades. History on the site runs back to the Stark brothers in 1798, before Rankine's 1840 distillery. The closed era stock is finite, and every bottle drawn is one fewer left. Rosebank stood on the Forth and Clyde Canal, which once carried its casks to market.

At 43% it is soft, grassy and honeyed. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under gooseberry and fresh grass. A beeswax and a tropical fruit give it real depth. The finish is elegant, waxy and tropical. This is a piece of Lowland legend in the glass.
