Description
This is a Rosebank single malt, chosen and bottled by UD - bottler, a 10 year old from 1991 and bottled at 43%. Rosebank was founded in 1840 by James Rankine on the canal at Camelon, near Falkirk and brought to a halt in 1993. Ian Macleod bought the site, the trademark and the last casks from Diageo in 2017.
The spirit was triple distilled and worm tub cooled, the Rosebank way, for the elegant, floral style that crowned it King of the Lowlands. An American oak cask shaped it, flattering the floral, ester rich make. At this age the spirit is bright and floral, the citrus and grass fresh. Decades in oak build a waxy weight over the elegant Lowland distillate. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades.
Bottled at 43%, it is rounded. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. A long, honeyed finish carries a grassy note. This is a vanishing dram from Scotland's most mourned Lowland distillery.
