Description
A Rosebank single malt, selected and bottled by Silver Seal, a 30 year old Lowland malt, from 1975 and bottled at 54.8%. A release of 192 bottles. Rosebank, founded in 1840 by James Rankine on the Forth and Clyde Canal at Falkirk, was mothballed in 1993. Ian Macleod reopened the distillery in 2023, though stock like this is from the original era.
It was put through three stills and worm tubs for body and finesse, to build the floral, grassy malt blenders prized. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, the classic wood for Rosebank. Long ageing brings a waxy depth, candied fruit and a mellow grassy note. The clean, high collected spirit ages gracefully, keeping its floral lift. History on the site runs back to the Stark brothers in 1798, before Rankine's 1840 distillery. The closed era stock is finite, and every bottle drawn is one fewer left.
At a natural 54.8% it is full and expressive. A delicate floral, waxy depth sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. It is clean and elegant, the grassy spirit shining through. A delicate, fruity finish lingers long. This is a revered triple distilled malt from a distillery silent for thirty years.
