Description
This is a Rosebank single malt, chosen and bottled by Cadenhead's, a 22 year old from 1989 and bottled at 50.1%. 222 bottles in all. Rosebank was opened in 1840 beside the Forth and Clyde Canal and shut by its owners in 1993. Its last spirit ran in 1993, a finite legacy revered ever since.
It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, giving the delicate yet weighty character it was famed for. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the florals lead. Beyond twenty years the malt grows waxy and tropical, marzipan and honey over a soft floral base. The third distillation lifts the spirit clean and high, leaving a delicate, ester rich new make. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit.
At a hearty 50.1% it carries real weight. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. A long, honeyed finish carries a grassy note. This is a vanishing dram from Scotland's most mourned Lowland distillery.
