Description
Single malt Rosebank, an independent Speciality Drinks Ltd bottling, a 16 year old from 1991, drawn from cask 402 and bottled at 55.2%. The outturn was 249 bottles. Rosebank was opened in 1840 beside the Forth and Clyde Canal and shut by its owners in 1993. Its closed era stock became a collector's prize.
It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, giving a clean, fruity spirit with a worm tub weight. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, lending honey and vanilla under the grass. Mid age brings a fuller honey and a deeper tropical note to the florals. The third distillation lifts the spirit clean and high, leaving a delicate, ester rich new make. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit.
At a hearty 55.2% it carries real weight. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with lemon and cut grass. The mouthfeel is gentle, the honey carried on a waxy body. A long, honeyed finish carries a grassy note. This is a vanishing dram from Scotland's most mourned Lowland distillery.
