Description
A distillery bottling of Rosebank, aged 12 year old, and bottled at 43%. Established in 1840 beside the Forth and Clyde Canal, Rosebank was shut by its owners in 1993. Rosebank distilled again from 2023, yet this is spirit from the closed era.
It was distilled three times and passed through traditional worm tub condensers, to build the floral, grassy malt blenders prized. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the florals lead. Younger here, it keeps a crisp, green freshness over light honey. The third distillation lifts the spirit clean and high, leaving a delicate, ester rich new make. Closed in 1993, the site fell derelict and its copper stills were stolen in 2008. Ian Macleod rescued the distillery, the trademark and the last casks, reopening it in 2023. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit.
Bottled at 43%, it is rounded. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with lime, pear and a herbal note. The texture is soft and rounded, the florals lifted by honey. The finish runs clean, grassy and soft. This is stock from a closed Lowland legend, ever scarcer.
