Description
From Cadenhead's comes this Rosebank, a 10 year old from 1989 and bottled at 58.6%. Just 330 bottles were filled. Rosebank was first established in 1840 at Falkirk, on the Lowland canal side and closed in 1993 and long mourned. Triple distillation and worm tub condensers, a pairing unique to Rosebank, gave the malt its elegant yet weighty style.
Drawn off after a third distillation and condensed slowly in worm tubs, the make took the Rosebank style. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, lending honey and vanilla under the grass. At a youthful age the florals are lively and the fruit clean. Patient maturation turns the grassy new make towards marzipan and soft tropical fruit. The first new make ran on the 5th of June 2023, almost thirty years to the day after closure. Water came from the Carron Valley, feeding a light, ester rich Lowland spirit. The 108 foot chimney remained a Falkirk landmark through the long silent decades.
At a full 58.6% it is intense yet elegant. Honeysuckle and lemon zest meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Soft citrus and orchard fruit sit behind the sweetness. It closes long, floral and honeyed. This is a finite pour from the King of the Lowlands.
