Description
Weingut Polz, founded in 1896 in southern Styria, made this Brut Blanc from 100% Chardonnay by the methode traditionnelle, with a second fermentation in bottle. That bottle ageing on the lees is what builds the wine's bready depth and fine bead, and it sets this Sekt apart from the region's tank-made fizz. The wine is designed to reflect the South Styrian terroir, and the dosage sits at a dry Brut level so the structure and autolytic character lead.
The colour is a brilliant green-yellow. The nose and palate share fine brioche and toasted bread notes over apple and citrus, delicately spicy and juicy, with a firm structure from the bottle ageing. The finish is long-lasting. Serve well chilled at 4 to 6 degrees in a white wine glass. It makes a serious aperitif and suits shellfish, white fish and hard, nutty cheeses.
