An intense Marie-Galante blanc from Pere Labat, pressed from fresh cane juice and bottled high at 53%, trading pure grass for a meaty, earthy, faintly saline depth of pepper, citrus and olive that begs for serious ti’ punch duty.
Description
Poisson's Pere Labat distillery on Marie-Galante has a name for small batch blancs bottled high by local custom, and this Clos Parcellaire single-plot release lands at 53%. It is a cane juice agricole, pressed from fresh vesou rather than molasses, and it leans earthy and savoury rather than simply grassy.
Distilled on a column kept low to preserve the vegetal cane character, it shows citrus, grass and green spice on the nose, then a peppery, rooty palate with a touch of pineapple. The finish is where it turns distinctive, oily and faintly salty with olive and an almost truffled earthiness. This is a white with real depth and brine, balanced enough for slow sipping but built to anchor a ti' punch.
