A 17 Year Old single-cask Nicaraguan column-still rum from Plantation by Maison Ferrand, drawn from a 1999 vintage and matured in ex-bourbon oak, bottled at 42.3%.
Description
Plantation, the rum arm of France's Maison Ferrand, is known for double ageing its core range, but this is a single-cask release from a 1999 Nicaraguan vintage carrying seventeen years. Nicaragua's column-still molasses rums tend toward the drier, cleaner end of the Spanish style, more spirit-forward than the sweet Central American norm. Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 42.3%, this should show vanilla, soft oak spice and dried fruit, with the single cask giving a more focused read than a blended bottling. Maison Ferrand does use dosage across its range, so while the Nicaraguan base leans drier, the bottler's house approach means this may carry a gentle rounding rather than being fully austere.
