Maison Ferrand's Plantation line is mainstream and cocktail-acclaimed, double-aged in cognac casks, and this Grand Terroir is its accessible Jamaican entry at 5 years. Bottled at a gentle 42%, it is designed to introduce island character without overwhelming a newcomer.

Distilled on a pot still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it keeps the funk light: fruity, estery aromas with tropical fruit and vanilla, then a palate of fruit, tropical fruit and a cognac-tinged note from the finishing casks. The finish brings woody, solventy and tropical fruit notes at modest strength. Maison Ferrand is openly a sweetened house, so the rounded softness here is no accident and the rum should be read as gently dosed rather than bone dry.
