A sweet Guatemala and Belize blend re-aged in cognac casks, with peachy stone fruit, vanilla and caramel to the fore, soft and easy at 42%, an affordable everyday sipper or mixer for those who like rounded rums.
Description
Plantation Gran Anejo is a Maison Ferrand blend of column still rum from Guatemala and Belize, aged in the Caribbean and finished in Ferrand cognac casks in France, the double ageing the house is known for. Bottled at 42%, it sits in the accessible, easy to like part of the range, pitched at value and easy drinking.
This is a sweetened rum, and the dosage gives it a soft, rounded feel. The nose is notably rich and fruity for its price, with peach and stone fruit alongside vanilla, caramel and a little nutty chocolate, while the palate stays fresh, fruity and sweet with peach, vanilla and caramel carried by the cognac cask influence, finishing on vanilla and barrel notes. Honest framing keeps it credible, this is a sweet, gentle blend rather than a dry sipper, and on those terms it is a likeable everyday bottle for casual pours or cocktails.
