Description
From Douglas McGibbon, an independent bottler, this 8 Year Old is cask DMG 10695, a 2006 vintage. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.
Early at eight years, the American oak gave the heavy, sulphury make first vanilla and a little coconut from the lactones, the worm-tub weight still dominant.
At 46% it shows citrus and fresh fruit. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
