Ian Macleod Distillers, owner of Glengoyne and Tamdhu, bottling under its Chieftain's range, drew this 18 Year Old, a 1993 vintage, cask 3595, an outturn of 637 bottles. Mortlach, the Beast of Dufftown, condenses its spirit in worm tubs and part-triple-distils through the tiny Wee Witchie still, building weight and a savoury, sulphury core.

Across eighteen years the sherry's melanoidins and growing oxidation built dried fruit, nutmeg and leather into Mortlach's weighty make.

At 57.2% it shows chocolate, dried fruit, a sherried depth, tobacco and vanilla, undiluted. A Beast of Dufftown.
