Description
A.D. Rattray, an independent bottler, released this 17 Year Old, a 1996 vintage from a small parcel of casks, an outturn of 293 bottles. Mortlach's robust, umami-rich spirit is the work of worm-tub condensers and the Wee Witchie's triple pass, a regime in place at Dufftown since 1897.
Seventeen years in Oloroso deepened the muscular Dufftown spirit into figgy dried fruit and leather, oxidation and ellagitannins adding a nutty, polished structure.
At 56.3% it shows dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty, sherried depth over the oily Mortlach weight, undiluted. The savoury Dufftown style.
