From Master of Malt, an independent bottler, this 12 Year Old is a 2013 vintage, an outturn of 300 bottles. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.

Across twelve years in American oak, esterification got underway and the meaty spirit rounded, vanilla and light toffee folding in.

At 61.6% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth on Mortlach's muscular frame, undiluted. Mortlach at full weight.
