Description
Signatory Vintage, one of Scotland's largest independent bottlers, selected this 11 Year Old, a 2009 vintage, a small parcel of casks. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
By eleven years the bourbon oak had knitted with the gamey, savoury spirit, caramelised hemicellulose lending fudge alongside the meaty depth.
At 46% it shows a savoury, struck-match note. Big, meaty and full-bodied.
