Douglas McGibbon, an independent bottler, bottles this 10 Year Old, a 2004 from cask DMG 10455. Mortlach, the Beast of Dufftown, condenses its spirit in worm tubs and part-triple-distils through the tiny Wee Witchie still, building weight and a savoury, sulphury core.

By ten years the bourbon oak had knitted with the oily, meaty spirit, caramelised hemicellulose lending fudge alongside the savoury depth.

At 46% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight on Mortlach's muscular frame. Mortlach at full weight.
