Loch Lomond Croftengea 1996 Cask #283

Croftengea is one of Loch Lomond's heavily peated malt names, rarely seen and densely smoky. This single cask, number 283 from a 1996 vintage, matures it in Oloroso, an outturn of 380 Distillery Select bottles.

Nine years in Oloroso set sherried dried fruit against a heavy peat, the cask's melanoidins giving fig and raisin while the smoke holds firm.

At 45% it shows a coal-gas edge, dried fruit, a medicinal note and old wood with a nutty depth, guaiacol from the peat driving the dense reek against the sherry. A sherried heavily peated Croftengea.
