Description
The Distillers Edition is Lagavulin's vintage-dated double maturation, the flagship's peat finished in sweet sherry. This 1980, bottled in 1999 at nineteen years old, is among the earliest and oldest in the series. The distillery was established in 1816 beside Lagavulin Bay, near Dunyvaig Castle.
Lagavulin's slow distillation builds the depth its malt is known for. After spending its first years in oak it was finished in Pedro Ximenez casks, the sweetest sherry, made from sun-dried grapes.
Bottled at 43%. Phenols and guaiacol carry the maritime peat, the Pedro Ximenez bringing raisin, date and treacle from its melanoidins. Tasting notes take in chocolate, citrus, dried fruit, an oily texture and old wood. A rare early Distillers Edition.
