Lagavulin The Distillers Edition 16 Years Old 2003

This 2003 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2019 at sixteen years old, finished in Oloroso. Founded in 1816, Lagavulin sits among the famous trio of southern Islay distilleries.

Slow distillation through the pear-shaped stills gives a deep, smoky spirit. After the initial maturation it was re-racked into Oloroso casks, the sherry drying the sweetness against the peat.

Bottled at 43%. Phenols and guaiacol carry the maritime peat, the Oloroso giving fig and raisin. Tasting notes take in smoke, a cooked vegetable note, a medicinal edge, old wood, chocolate and dried fruit. An Oloroso-finished Distillers Edition.
