Lagavulin The Distillers Edition 16 Years Old 2001

This 2001 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2017 at sixteen years old, finished in Oloroso for a drier sherry character. Founded in 1816, the distillery sits on Islay's southern shore at Lagavulin Bay.

Lagavulin runs its pear-shaped stills slowly for a heavy, peated spirit. After its first maturation it was finished in Oloroso casks for dried-fruit depth.

Bottled at 43%. Phenols and guaiacol carry the maritime peat, the Oloroso giving fig and raisin with a walnut dryness. Tasting notes take in smoke, a sherried character, citrus, dried fruit, new wood and tobacco. An Oloroso-finished Distillers Edition.
