Description

This 1996 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2012 at sixteen years old, a PX-finished vintage. Lagavulin, in a bay on the south of Islay, was founded in 1816 and is one of the most celebrated Islay distilleries.

The malt is heavily peated, the spirit drawn slowly off the stills. Its second maturation came in Pedro Ximenez casks for a raisiny depth.

Bottled at 43%. Guaiacol and other phenols carry the coastal smoke, the Pedro Ximenez giving dark raisined fruit. The recorded notes run to citrus and smoke. A PX-finished Distillers Edition.
