Lagavulin The Distillers Edition 16 Years Old 1993

This 1993 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2009 at sixteen years old, finished in Oloroso for a drier sherry character. Lagavulin, on the Kildalton shore of southern Islay, was founded in 1816 and is one of Diageo's flagship Islay malts.

Lagavulin's pot stills run slowly, building a dense peated character. Following the first maturation it went into Oloroso casks for dried-fruit depth.

Bottled at 43%. The maritime smoke comes from guaiacol and phenols, the Oloroso adding fig and raisin with a nutty edge. The recorded note is a toasted character over the smoke. An Oloroso-finished Distillers Edition.
