Description

This 1986 Distillers Edition was bottled in 2002 at sixteen years old, an early vintage of Lagavulin's sherry-finished series. Lagavulin, on Islay's southern shore at Lagavulin Bay, was founded in 1816 and is one of Diageo's most prized Islay malts.

A long, slow distillation through onion-shaped stills shapes the peated make. After spending its first years in oak it was finished in Pedro Ximenez casks for a raisiny sweetness against the smoke.

Bottled at 43%. Guaiacol and phenols carry the maritime smoke, the PX adding raisin and date over a syrupy depth. A sherry-finished Distillers Edition from an early vintage.
