Description

This 21 Years Old is a Lagavulin Select Cask, distilled in 1997 and drawn from ex-Bourbon cask 0001, bottled in 2018, a small outturn of 158 bottles. Lagavulin has stood at its namesake bay since 1816, one of Islay's south-shore distilleries.

The malt is heavily peated, the spirit drawn slowly off the stills. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask at full strength, twenty-one years deepen the smoke.

Bottled at full strength, 56.6%. The smoke is carried by guaiacol and phenols, vanilla from the oak beneath. Notes take in a mossy note, an oily texture, smoke, a medicinal edge, vanilla and dried fruit. A mature Select Cask Lagavulin.
