Description

This 20 Years Old is a Lagavulin Select Cask, distilled in 1997 and drawn from American oak cask 0002, bottled in 2017 for China, an outturn of 240 bottles. The distillery dates from 1816, set in a sheltered bay on southern Islay.

Slow distillation through the pear-shaped stills gives a deep, smoky spirit. Matured in a single American oak cask at full strength, two decades deepen the smoke.

Cask strength, 56.3%. Peat phenols and guaiacol carry the smoke, the American oak giving vanilla and honey. The recorded note is honey over the mature smoke. A mature Select Cask Lagavulin.
