Lagavulin Lg12 ElD Elements of Islay (Elixir)

Elixir Distillers bottled this Lagavulin as Lg12 in its Elements of Islay range, a cask strength ex-Bourbon release from 2022. Independent Lagavulin is rare. One of Islay's south-coast distilleries, Lagavulin was founded in 1816.

A famously unhurried distillation gives a heavy, peated body. Matured in ex-Bourbon at full strength, the wood gives vanilla beneath the smoke.

Cask strength, 55.4%. Phenolic compounds drive the peat smoke, with vanilla from the ex-Bourbon. Tasting notes take in smoke, citrus, honey, vanilla, a cooked mash note and a medicinal edge. A rare independent Elements of Islay Lagavulin.
