Description
This 37 Years Old was a 2013 Special Release, distilled in 1976 and matured in American and European oak, an outturn of 1,868 bottles. Among the oldest Lagavulin ever bottled. The distillery has occupied Lagavulin Bay since 1816, near the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.
Onion-shaped stills and a slow run give Lagavulin its weight. Matured in American and European oak at full strength, nearly four decades soften the smoke into a profound, waxy depth.
Bottled without dilution at 51%. Phenols and guaiacol carry a soft, aged smoke, the oak giving vanilla and dried fruit over an aged, waxy weight. The recorded notes run to leather and smoke. A rare, very old Special Release.
