Description

This 30 Years Old was a 2006 Special Release, distilled in 1976 and matured in ex-Bourbon, an outturn of 2,340 bottles. A rare old Lagavulin. Founded in 1816, the distillery sits on Islay's southern shore at Lagavulin Bay.

Lagavulin's peated spirit is run slowly off the stills for weight. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks at full strength, three decades soften the smoke into a deep, waxy maturity.

Cask strength, 52.6%. Guaiacol and phenols carry a mellowed smoke, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla over a waxy depth. The recorded note is a cooked vegetable edge. A rare old Special Release.
