Description

This 25 Years Old was a single cask released for Lagavulin's 200th anniversary in 2016, distilled in 1991 and matured in Oloroso, an outturn of 522 bottles for Germany. Lagavulin sits on the Kildalton shore of southern Islay, founded in 1816, two centuries earlier.

Slow distillation through the pear-shaped stills gives a deep, smoky spirit. Matured in a single Oloroso cask at full strength, a quarter century wraps the smoke in deep sherry.

52.7%, the cask's own strength. Peat phenols and guaiacol carry the smoke, the Oloroso giving fig and raisin with a walnut dryness. The recorded note is a toasted edge. A bicentenary single cask Lagavulin.
