Description
This 16 Years Old was Lagavulin's release for the 2017 Islay festival, a cask strength release of 6,000 bottles given a Moscatel cask influence. The distillery dates from 1816, in a sheltered bay on southern Islay.
Lagavulin's slow distillation builds the depth its malt is known for. Matured with a Moscatel influence, the sweet fortified wine wood adds a grapey note to the smoke.
Bottled at full strength, 56.1%. Guaiacol leads the phenols behind the smoke, the Moscatel adding a sweet, grapey character. Tasting notes take in smoke, citrus, honey, chocolate, a coal-gas edge and a cooked vegetable note. A Moscatel festival Lagavulin.
