Description

The Italian importer Moon-Import bottled this 1988 Lagavulin as Horae Solaris, a 10 year old cask strength release, an outturn of 1,300 bottles. The distillery dates to 1816, on the rocky south shore of Islay at Lagavulin Bay.

Onion-shaped stills and a slow run give Lagavulin its weight. Matured in ex-Bourbon at full strength, ten years give a bright, direct smoke.

50%, the cask's own strength. The smoke rises from guaiacol and phenols, the ex-Bourbon giving vanilla. Tasting notes take in smoke, citrus, fresh fruit, honey, a medicinal edge and new wood. A rare independent Moon-Import Lagavulin.
