A near cask strength Martinique agricole selected by La Confrerie du Rhum, this five year Clement layers toasted oak, nutmeg, chocolate and dried fruit over a cane core, dry and powerful yet well integrated at 59.9%.
Description
This is a Clement single distillery selection bottled for La Confrerie du Rhum, a rum society edition drawn from the Distillerie du Simon in Martinique. Like all Martinique agricole it is distilled from fresh cane juice on a creole column, and at five years in ex bourbon oak it sits past the three year floor for a vieux, carrying the weight of the world's only rum AOC.
Bottled near 60% and unsweetened, it rewards attention without scorching. Toasted oak, nutmeg and baking spice lead, with chocolate, roasted nuts and dried fruit filling out a dry, woody palate, and the finish runs long on barrel and vanilla. The grassy agricole base is still present beneath the wood, and the high strength is carried with notably good integration for the proof. This is agricole at full power for experienced drinkers who enjoy dry, woody profiles and Foursquare style intensity, dense and balanced and made for slow sipping.
