Description
The German bottler Jack Wiebers placed this 1989 Inverleven in its Auld Distillers Collection, a range for spirit from silent distilleries. Single cask 500118 gave 102 bottles for Germany at 14 years old, bottled at a fierce natural strength.
Inverleven was a malt distillery within the Dumbarton complex, built by Hiram Walker in 1938 for the Ballantine's blend and closed in 1991. Younger than most surviving casks, this shows the spirit with real vigour. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask, the oak held a high strength across 14 years.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 61.8%. The ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut over a light Lowland spirit. At full strength it is bright and intense, citrus and fresh oak with a youthful drive. Vivid, and from a distillery now gone.
