Description
Leo Hillinger is among the most modern wineries in Austria, working from Jois on the Neusiedlersee in Burgenland where the warm Pannonian climate ripens red grapes reliably. This Secco Rosé, sold under the Pink Ribbon label, is made in the light, semi-sparkling Frizzante idiom rather than as a full Sekt, gently pressed from red varieties to draw a pale rosé colour. The fizz is set in stainless steel tank so the fresh red fruit stays clear, and the wine finishes dry, giving a crisp, uncomplicated style for aperitifs and warm-weather drinking.
The colour is a pale rosé with a fine bead. The nose brings strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant, with a lift of citrus and a light floral edge. The palate is fresh and dry, the red fruit carried on a soft fizz, and the finish is clean. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees. It makes an easy aperitif and suits summer salads, light fish and antipasti, as well as a bowl of fresh berries.
