Gran Cruz 10 Years Old Tawny Port in Holzkiste

Gran Cruz is the aged Tawny line from Porto Cruz, one of the most widely poured Port brands, drawing on Douro fruit fortified with grape spirit in the traditional way. The ten year designation reflects the average age of the wines blended into it.

Where Ruby styles are held back from air to keep their red colour, this Tawny is matured oxidatively in oak casks for around a decade. That slow contact with wood and oxygen fades the wine to a deep amber brown and shifts the profile away from fresh fruit toward nut, dried fruit and caramel, with wood-ageing spice woven through.

The nose leads with walnut and toasted almond alongside orange peel and confit fruit, backed by hints of cedar and pepper. The palate is smooth and velvety, carrying fig, date and caramel over drier oak notes, closing long with toasted oak and a nutty edge held together by fresh acidity. Serve lightly chilled at cellar temperature as a digestif, or with coffee, dark chocolate and aged cheese.
